The artist has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to preserve the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by including a small levy to their admission fees, which benefits independent venues.

He also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 local spots across Britain.

The money helped spaces that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from performances in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

Back when they received the award in 1996 for their release the album, frontman Cocker announced that the act would donate their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite split her prize across multiple good causes, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," the artist shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that supported their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And 1994 winners the group contributed their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the properties.
